A Birthday Gift List Online That Is Not a Shop

Nobody wants to be the person asking for presents, and nobody wants to buy the fifth toaster. A gift section on the invitation page lets people give something useful and lets you remember who gave it.

The awkward part is the asking, not the list

Most people at a birthday have no idea what to buy, and the three who do have ideas are the three nobody wants. The result is a table of identical mugs. A written list removes the guesswork for guests, and it removes the performance for you, provided it sits on the invitation rather than arriving as a message of its own.

The other reason to put it on the page is memory. Forty guests later, whoever you thank is a matter of notes, and notes taken in the moment are the only kind that work.

What the gift section can hold

A linked list of your own

Name the things you would genuinely use, in your own words, with room for one line about why. It is a list you write, not a shop you browse.

    A shared fund

For the trip, the kitchen, or the cooking classes: people contribute to one thing instead of buying several small ones, and the page records each contribution with the name it came from.

The way you are happy to be paid

Gift collection works through M-Pesa, card or bank transfer, whichever you set up on your page, so guests are not left guessing about money.

Who gave what, and what they said

Every gift is recorded with its sender and the message attached to it. The thank-you note writes itself from that, even months later.

Pointing at it without sounding like a demand

One sentence on the invitation, at the end, and nobody feels instructed.

    • Lead with the party: date, time, place, reply. The gift line comes last.
    • Say if you would rather have nothing, then give one honest alternative for the people who will bring something anyway.
    • Use your own words for the list. A line about why you want it makes it a wish instead of an invoice.
    • Set the expectations you can keep: a fund is a suggestion, and so is a price.
    • Tell people the option is entirely theirs, and mean it.

Two ways to say it on the invitation

    The honest one
If you would like to give something, there is a short list on the page. Please do not feel anything is expected: coming and eating the cake is plenty.
    For the shared fund
We have spent the last four birthdays buying Tom things he does not need, so if you would like to contribute, we are collecting for one long walk in Norway next spring.
For a child's birthday, where the parents do the asking
No gifts, please. If you would like to add something, Ines is collecting books for her own shelf, and the page has that note on it.

    What this is not

My Joyfullday does not sell gifts and does not have a store of its own. The gift section sits on your invitation page as a list, a fund, and the collection options you set up; how money reaches you depends on the option you choose, so check what you have enabled before you send it.

It also does not turn your party into a transaction. If you would rather not mention gifts at all, leave the section off the page. The list and the record of who gave what are there when you want them and invisible when you do not.

    How it works

From an empty section to a thank-you list

    Build the birthday page first

Start free in the web app or describe the party to Jitabi on WhatsApp. Get the details, the reply button and the schedule in place, since a gift list bolted onto an empty invitation is the version that reads badly.

Add the gift section and choose what it offers

Write the list in your own words, or set up one thing people can contribute to, and turn on the collection method you are comfortable with. Then publish, because a draft is visible to nobody.

Send the invitation with one short sentence about it

The link goes to your guests with the gift line at the end, where it belongs. Anyone who does not care never has to look at that section.

    Read the record afterwards

Gifts come through with the sender and the message kept against them, so the thank-you notes on the Sunday are accurate instead of a guessing game about who bought what.

    Questions

Common questions about birthday gift registry online

Is this a shop where guests buy things?

No. Nothing is sold on the page and there is no store attached to it. It is a list you write, or one thing people can contribute to, alongside the collection options you set up yourself.

Can I ask for a cash gift toward a trip?

That is the most common use. Describe the thing you are saving for on the page, and contributions arrive recorded with the name of the person who sent them and whatever message they attached.

Do guests see what other people gave?

Guests see what you choose to show them: the list or the fund, and how to give. The record of who sent what, with their message, sits with you rather than on the invitation.

Can I add the gift section after invitations have gone out?

Yes. Edit the page, turn the section on and save. The link your guests already have shows the updated version, which is one of the few advantages of an invitation that lives at an address.

Does the gift section cost anything?

It is part of the birthday page rather than a separate product. What is included depends on the plan you are on, and the plans are laid out on the pricing page without any numbers quoted here.
